Fat freezing, or cryolipolysis, has been around for roughly ten years now, and each year, it gains more and more popularity. But, many people are still unsure about what this treatment entails and how it’s beneficial. The fat freezing treatment we offer at CBB is an effective method for destroying fat cells, and specifically those pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise as a weight-loss technique. Here are the most frequently asked questions about this treatment.
What happens to the fat cells?
This treatment works to permanently destroy up to 20 to 30 percent of fat cells with each treatment (in the treated areas). The fat cells are frozen below -10 degrees and die by a natural process called apoptosis. The body then breaks down these cells and flushes them out through the liver in the several weeks after your treatment.
Is fat freezing for you?
It is important to understand that cryolipolysis isn’t a treatment intended for weight loss or removing large amounts of fat. Rather it is mostly used as a way to remove “pinchable” areas of hard-to-lose deposits of fat. If you are looking for mild improvements, such as removing a double chin, then this is a great treatment option for you. Other areas that may be treated include the abdomen, hips/love handles, arms, bra strap area, and inner & outer thighs.
How long do results last for?
Fat freezing results are permanent. Why? Our bodies contain a finite number of fat cells, meaning that the cells will not reproduce. Once the fat cells leave the via the lymphatic system, they are gone for good! However, the remaining fat cells can still increase in size, so it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle following your treatment. Nonetheless, because the treatment does reduce the number of fat cells, your body will remain slimmer in those areas than it would have been if you had not received the treatment.
Does it tighten skin?
This particular fat freezing treatment is not designed to tighten loose or stretched skin, so you may require additional skin tightening treatments. At CBB, we do offer a skin tightening treatment called Onda Coolwaves. Using patented microwaves technology, Onda Coolwaves will dissolve some localised fat while also reducing the appearance of cellulite. The heat produced by this device causes the collagen fibres in the dermis to contract, thereby stimulating the production of new collagen and making the tissue more toned. Cryolipolysis is purely to help destroy fat cells.
Is it Safe?
This treatment is non-invasive, meaning it does not penetrate the skin. Therefore, there is no risk of infection or complication. Overall, fat freezing is a comfortable experience. You may feel a slight tugging or pulling sensation at the treatment spot, but it is not painful. There is also no downtime with this treatment, so you can get on with your day afterwards.
